Naturalistic Environmental Teaching

Natural Environment Teaching (NET) is a highly effective, child-led approach that promotes skill development in a natural setting. By incorporating familiar toys, songs, and activities, this evidence-based method allows learners to build essential hands-on skills while they play. Best of all, they often don't realize they are actively learning! NET enhances various areas, including functional play, socialization, communication, and key skills like following instructions, waiting, and turn-taking. Behavioral Supports

Antecedent-Based Intervention

This evidence-based intervention method helps reduce interfering behaviors by promoting an environment that discourages them from occurring in the first place. This disrupts the pattern of troublesome behavior. We study the events that lead to troublesome behavior before it occurs and look at what happens after the behavior occurs. Through this analysis and investigation, we learn the best strategies to discourage the troublesome behavior from happening by promoting a supportive environment and encouraging the application of new skills.

Differential Reinforcement

This approach helps us reduce interfering troublesome behavior by rewarding learners when they are not engaging in them. In addition, we teach new skills that may be incompatible with the trouble behavior so we can minimize the occurrence and promote meaningful change and valuable life skills.

Self-Management

This valuable, evidence-based approach helps children gain a sense of pride in their work and helps them build confidence in their abilities. Learners are taught to reward themselves for their work through parameters and rules based on their skill levels. With this strategy, learners will gain valuable life skills such as self-reflection, monitoring, and discriminating between appropriate and inappropriate behaviors. Their therapist will encourage and guide them each step of the way until they are able to independently evaluate their own progress and reward themselves for their quality work!

Response Interruption and Redirection

This strategy is applied when the troublesome interfering behavior has presented itself. As the child engages in the troublesome behavior, highly trained therapists quickly move to interrupt the behavior. This is accomplished through prompting the child to engage in another task, activity, or preferred behavior. By disrupting the troublesome behavior from occurring and providing different options and choices, we are able to encourage socially significant change.

Cognitive Behavioral Intervention

This therapeutic approach teaches children about their emotions and how to manage them. We teach foundational skills such as communication, social interaction, and coping strategies to help them deescalate themselves effectively based on their individual needs.

Parent Implemented Intervention

This evidence-based strategy involves the learner's parents actively receiving coaching and mentorship in the application of ABA-based principles. Parents learn a combination of techniques based on the learner's specific needs and how to apply them to their daily routines. This approach empowers parents with the skills and confidence needed to make lifelong changes in troublesome behavior.

Communication

Technology Aided Instruction

This instructional method effectively teaches learners to harness technology for expressing their needs. Grounded in evidence-based strategies, it empowers children of all ages to communicate essential aspects of daily living, make significant requests, and engage in recreational activities. By integrating technology, this approach fosters independence and enhances communication skills, paving the way for a more connected and engaged life.

Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS)

This communicative strategy is essential for young learners who are struggling with verbal speech. It is a behavior-based intervention that allows non-verbal individuals to communicate with others through the use of pictures, symbols, and graphics. The pictures used can be customized to fit the needs of the learner.

Learning Supports

Modeling

This evidence-based strategy involves the learner actively observing a skill or target behavior being performed by a therapist. This helps children visually learn new skills so they can begin performing them on their own.

Prompting

Prompting helps children learn errorlessly and become less frustrated when they are initially learning new skills for the first time. We make it easy and effortless for children who are struggling to learn new skills and slowly fade away our support until they are able to independently perform new skills.

Pivotal Response Training

This approach helps children learn new skills by harnessing their natural interests and is play-based. This strategy helps motivate children to learn new skills and adapt them in different settings. This process involves delivering instruction, providing the learner a chance to respond, and therapist feedback.

Visual Supports

This evidence-based practice provides learners with visual aids in order to guide them towards making correct responses. Visual supports can be applied in many different contexts. Examples can range from following steps to complete an activity or even serve as a guide to remind learners of an expectation or rule.

Social Narratives

If your child loves stories, then this evidence-based practice is for you! This approach teaches learners social cues, feelings, and thoughts of others through situations and behavioral expectations in a wide array of different contexts and settings. Best of all, they can be individualized and created to the learner's specific needs.

Social Skills Training

This proven intervention approach is adult-led in order to provide the additional supports the learner needs to be successful in social situations. This technique is essential for building conversational skills and social reciprocity when interacting with same-aged peers and adults.
